It's here just in time for the holidays!
I first started following Stephanie Perkins around online because she is altogether delightful. Then I was altogether delighted to discover that her first book, Anna and the French Kiss, was just as delightful a read. (It was one of my favorite YA reads of 2010.) So when I heard that she was editing a holiday-themed short story collection, I had to check it out.
I do not win the award for #1 Fan of the Holidays. I do not live in expectation 364 days a year for that one magical Christmas day. However, there is a certain glow about this time of year. The glow of hot chocolate. Family. Tree and cookie decorating. Whipped cream. Peppermint. Christmas carols. Family togetherness. It's a Wonderful Life. General holiday cheer. (It's probably a good thing that I'm so inclined, or I might have started cringing every time my high school a cappella group belted out "Carol of the Bells." "Ding! Dong ding! Dong! DONGGGGGGGG.")
I'm happy to report that My True Love Gave to Me is all of that and more. And the best thing is that though there is a common glowing holiday Christmas-light thread, every story in this collection is distinct. Families of all stripes and predilections. Main characters of the many-siblinged and no-siblinged variety. Holiday stories with characters who don't celebrate Christmas. I was just happy reading these stories, and utterly charmed. (Be warned: This collection is likely not the best choice if you do not enjoy at least some aspects of the Thanksgiving-through-Christmas holiday stretch. But if you do, this is the perfect choice.)
My True Love Gave to Me is available now, just in time to settle into your window seat to watch the snow with a blanket and a mug of hot chocolate...and a good book.
